What We Treat

Parkinson’s Disease

Keep moving, keep doing, and keep living on your terms

A Parkinson’s diagnosis changes a lot, but it does not take away your ability to move well and stay active. Research is clear that the right exercise and therapy can help you maintain movement, balance, and independence, and that starting sooner makes a real difference.

At our Penfield clinic, Limitless provides specialized neurologic physical therapy for people with Parkinson’s across Rochester, Penfield, and WebsterTogether, we build a plan that helps you move bigger, stay steady, and keep doing the things that matter to you.

How we help people with Parkinson's

If you’re training to perform, we’re here for it.

We focus on the movement challenges Parkinson’s brings, and on helping you keep your independence.

  • Walking, gait, and freezing episodes
  • Balance, stability, and fall-risk reduction
  • Movement size, speed, and stiffness (rigidity)
  • Posture and flexibility
  • Strength, endurance, and everyday confidence
  • Our Parkinson-specific exercise program (see PWR Moves)
Symptoms

Movement changes we help with

Parkinson’s affects everyone differently. These are the movement-related symptoms therapy can help you manage.

  • Slower, smaller movements or a shorter, shuffling step
  • Stiffness in the arms, legs, or trunk
  • Balance changes or a fear of falling
  • Freezing, or feeling stuck when starting to move
  • Changes in posture or difficulty turning
  • Reduced arm swing, dexterity, or general endurance
Why It Happens

Why movement changes with Parkinson's

Parkinson’s affects the brain’s ability to produce smooth, automatic movement, so motions that used to happen without thinking, like a full stride or a big arm swing, gradually become smaller and slower. Over time the body learns those smaller movements as its new normal, which is why symptoms can build if movement is not actively challenged.

Here is the encouraging part: the brain and body respond to specific, high-effort exercise. By practicing bigger, more deliberate movement and training balance and strength, many people with Parkinson’s improve how they move and hold onto their independence longer.

How We Help

PWR Moves for Parkinson's

A research-based exercise program to help you move bigger and stay independent

Movement is one of the most powerful tools for managing Parkinson’s, and how you exercise matters. PWR Moves is a Parkinson-specific program designed to directly target the movement changes Parkinson’s causes, so you can keep doing what matters with more confidence.

At our Penfield clinic, Limitless offers this specialized program for people with Parkinson’s across Rochester, Penfield, and Webster. It pairs proven, Parkinson-focused exercise with the guidance of a physical therapist who knows the condition.

What PWR Moves works on

If you’re training to perform, we’re here for it.

The program trains the foundational movements that Parkinson’s tends to make smaller and slower, then applies them to real life.

  • Moving bigger and with more amplitude
  • Standing tall and improving posture
  • Weight shifting, balance, and stability
  • Turning and transitions
  • Getting up, reaching, and everyday functional movement
  • Carrying these skills into your daily routine
Symptoms

Who PWR Moves can help

This program is a strong fit if Parkinson’s is affecting how you move day to day.

  • Movements that feel smaller, slower, or stiff
  • Balance changes or a fear of falling
  • A shorter or shuffling walking pattern
  • Difficulty turning or changing position
  • Trouble with reaching, standing tall, or getting up
  • Wanting a structured, Parkinson-specific way to stay active
Why It Happens

Why Parkinson-specific exercise works

Parkinson’s gradually shrinks the size and speed of movement, and the body starts to accept those smaller movements as normal. General exercise is good for you, but it does not always target that specific problem. Parkinson-focused training does: by practicing large, deliberate, high-effort movements again and again, you retrain your brain and body to move bigger, and then apply that to walking, turning, and daily tasks.

That is why a program built for Parkinson’s, guided by a therapist who understands it, can make such a practical difference in how you move and function.

How We Help

How the program works at Limitless

At Limitless, PWR Moves is delivered one-on-one and tailored to you, not run as a one-size-fits-all class.

We start with an evaluation of your movement, balance, and the goals that matter most to your daily life. From there we coach you through the program’s foundational movements, build them into functional, real-world tasks, and progress the intensity as you improve. We also give you the tools to keep practicing between visits, because consistency is where the results compound. Want the bigger picture? Learn more about our Parkinson’s care.

Treatment Framework

Your Path to a Limitless Life

At Limitless Physical Therapy, we don’t just treat pain, we help you reclaim control, build strength, and return to what makes you feel most alive.

Here’s how we do it:

Evaluate
Understand What’s Holding You Back

Every great plan starts with clarity. Our Doctors of Physical Therapy take time to listen to your story, understand your goals, and perform a detailed physical assessment. Together, we’ll uncover what’s causing your pain, and why it matters to you that it’s resolved. This deep understanding forms the foundation for your personalized plan forward.

Take Control
Calm Pain and Restore Movement

You don’t have to feel stuck in your body. In this phase, our goal is to help you take control by reducing the symptoms that limit your movement and quality of life. We use advanced tools like myofascial decompression, spinal manipulation, and joint mobilization alongside targeted exercise, our most powerful treatment, to restore mobility and relieve pain. You’ll begin to move with confidence again, one step at a time.

Build Resilience
Move Beyond Recovery

Feeling better is just the beginning.
True success comes when you build lasting strength, capacity, and confidence to keep your symptoms under control long-term. We’ll help you develop the resilience to move freely, perform your best, and fully engage in the activities that matter most to you. Because recovery isn’t the finish line.
